About Us

The Barrett family has called Kennebunkport home for over 20 years and we are proud new owners of The Harbor Inn. We hope to continue the legacy of the Dries family who, for years, created such a welcoming environment for friends, families, and travelers from across the world.

Ruth, Steve, and the family fell in love with southern Maine making summer trips to visit Steve’s parent’s cottage in Ogunquit. When Steve’s job took the family to Belgium for five years, those summers in Maine were like coming home. In 2000, we found our forever home in Kennebunkport. Since then, our family has grown as has our love for the area!

Some of our fondest memories have been made in Kennebunkport. Spending summer days at Goose Rocks or Colony Beach; taking walks up and down Ocean Ave; scootering up to Cape Porpoise to watch the lobster boats come in; swimming and kayaking the Kennebunk River; and of course, soaking in the beautiful sunsets with a cocktail in hand. A game of Scrabble on the porch or around the fireplace is always a must!

Ruth and Steve Barrett bring a wealth of ideas and experience to The Harbor Inn. Living abroad and oft traveling, they have a real appreciation for hospitality (and breakfast!) done right. And as partial owners of the Norwich Inn (Vermont), they are committed to making The Harbor Inn your top choice for your Kennebunkport visit.

Mike Barrett, Ruth and Steve’s youngest son, looks forward to welcoming you to The Harbor Inn as the innkeeper and breakfast chef. Uncle to nine and disciplinarian to none, Mike wants you to feel like family during your stay. Please don’t hesitate to ask if there’s anything Mike can do to make your stay more comfortable.
